Speakers

Stephen M. Miller, Ph.D.

Professor & Director, Center for Business and Economic Research

Stephen M. Miller is director of the Center for Business and Economic Research, the former chair of the Board of Directors of The Economic Club of Las Vegas, and a professor of economics and former department chair in the Lee Business School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Prior to that, he was professor of economics and department head at the University of Connecticut. He also held visiting positions with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and with the Congressional Budget Office. He received higher education training at Purdue University, receiving his bachelor’s degree with distinction in Engineering Sciences Engineering (a part of the Aeronautical Engineering School), and at the State University of New York at Buffalo, receiving his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in economics.

At UNLV, he developed with one of his M.A. students, Mustafa Gunaydin, the CBER-DETR Nevada Coincident and Leading Employment Indexes. These indexes track the contemporaneous and future movements in the Nevada employment markets. After becoming Director of CBER, he developed general coincident and leading indexes for the Nevada and Southern Nevada. These indexes track the contemporaneous and future movements in the overall Nevada and Southern Nevada economies.

JEREMY AGUERO

PRINCIPAL ANALYST, APPLIED ANALYSIS

Jeremy Aguero is a principal analyst with Applied Analysis, a leading economic, fiscal and policy research firm based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Aguero’s work history over more than two decades demonstrates a wide range of abilities. He has performed countless economic and fiscal impact assessments for projects of local, regional and national significance.

Aguero also acted as lead staff for the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee. The committee’s 16-months of public hearing ultimately culminated in a Special Session of the Nevada State Legislature where Senate Bill 1 paved the way for a $1.9 billion NFL stadium and $1.4 billion convention center expansion and Assembly Bill 1 provided increase funding for police officers within the regions tourism corridor and throughout southern Nevada.

Aguero is also active in the community. He has taught hotel law and data for policy analysis as distinguished professor of practice at UNLV and he currently serves on the board of Nevada State Bank. In addition to serving on the R&R Foundation board, Aguero is the treasurer of Nevada Child Seekers and chairman of Opportunity Village’s ARC Board. He has been honored as the Hispanic of Year by the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce and Alumni of the Year by the Boyd School of Law. A father of three children, Aguero also coaches youth baseball and soccer.

Sean Snaith, Ph.D.

Director, Institute for Economic Competitiveness, University of Central Florida

Sean Snaith, Ph.D., is the director of the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Economic Competitiveness and a nationally recognized economist in the field of business and economic forecasting.

Snaith is the recipient of multiple awards for the accuracy of his forecasts, his research and his teaching. He has served as a consultant for local governments and multinational corporations such as Compaq, Dell and IBM. Before joining UCF’s College of Business, he held teaching positions at Pennsylvania State University, American University in Cairo, the University of North Dakota and the University of the Pacific.

Snaith is frequently interviewed in international, national and regional media. He has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The New York Times, The Economist and The Guardian and has appeared on CNBC, Fox Business Network, The Nightly News with Brian Williams, Al Jazeera, the BBC and CBC, China Central TV, Sky News, Nippon TV and the Business News Network, based in Toronto.

Snaith is a sought-after speaker known for his engaging and humorous presentations. He has built a national reputation for his unique ability to explain complex subject matter in a digestible manner. He earned praise from one business editor for having “an uncanny knack of making economics not only understandable but interesting.”

Snaith is a member of several economic organizations and national economic forecasting panels, including The Wall Street Journal’s Economic Forecasting Survey, the Associated Press’ Economy Survey, CNNMoney.com’s Survey of Leading Economists, USA Today’s Survey of Top Economists, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s Survey of Professional Forecasters, Bloomberg and Reuters.

Snaith holds a B.S. in Economics from Allegheny College and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Pennsylvania State University.
